An African food restaurant in Derry is to close for a week following a weekend attack.

Windows were smashed at Sandy’s African food hub in the Spencer Road area of the Waterside on Saturday.

In a post of Facebook, the restaurant said: “We regret to inform our valued customers and the wider community that Sandy’s African Food Hub was attacked over the weekend by unknown individuals.

“Both front glass panels of our premises were broken and severely damaged.

“This deeply upsetting incident has been reported to the PSNI, and investigations are currently underway.

“We appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the attack or has any information to come forward and assist in identifying those responsible.

“Let us work together to ensure that such acts do not tarnish the image of our beloved city of Derry/Londonderry.

“Since opening our doors two years ago, we have served our community with pride, offering authentic and delicious African cuisine.

“This is the first time we have faced such a disturbing event, but we remain strong, undeterred, and committed to our mission.

“Thank you to all who have reached out with messages of support.

“We will continue to serve you with resilience and passion.

“Sandy’s African Food Hub Team.”
