A man, in his 50s, has been charged in relation to the death of a man in Donegal at the weekend.

An investigation was launched after the discovery of the body of Eddie Friel in Killybegs on Sunday.

Mr Friel, who was in his 60s, lived alone in a bungalow on the Harbour View Drive estate in the fishing town.

“A man (aged in his 50s) arrested in connection with the investigation has since been charged,” a Garda spokesperson said.

“He will appear before Carrick-on-Shannon District Court today.

“The post mortem has since been completed, the results of which are not being released for operational reasons.”

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and those with information to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballyshannon Garda Station on 071 9858530, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
