Irish National Opera returns to An Grianán Letterkenny for one night only with Johann Strauss’s bubbly comedy operetta Die Fledermaus.

In a whirlwind of mistaken identities, man-about-town Eisenstein, his wife Rosalinde, and their maid Adele all find themselves at Count Orlofsky’s masked ball. A night of flirtation, mischief and hilarity ensues. Donegal audiences will have the opportunity to see this unforgettable production on stage Saturday 15th February.

While Strauss is most famous for his “The Blue Danube” waltz, Die Fledermaus is arguably his most popular opera, known for its tunefulness, upbeat musicality and Viennese lilt.

An Griánan attendees will be treated to some of Strauss’ beautiful music, guaranteed to strike a chord with both seasoned opera goers and newcomers alike.

Have a sneak peek at rehearsals here:

This touring chamber production is arranged and conducted by Richard Peirson, renowned for his previous work with INO, including the Irish Times Theatre Award-winning Hansel and Gretel, which earned the 2022 Best Opera award. Pierson’s new adaptation promises to be a fresh take on Die Fledermaus, blending the vibrancy of Strauss’s original score with a contemporary sense of energy and fun and bringing a new dimension to this beloved work.

“It’s thrilling to bring Die Fledermaus to Irish audiences” says Director Davey Kelleher “We’re reimagining Strauss’s dazzling operetta in a bold, intimate setting, brimming with energy and playfulness.”
