Mayor Lilian Seenoi-Barr

Foyle MP Colum Eastwood has commented on the conviction of a man who posted menacing messages about Mayor Lilian Seenoi Barr.

Kevin Barry McIntyre (31), of Miller Street, Derry, posted abusive messages about Derry’s Mayor and Colum Eastwood suggesting ‘his and her death is near’.

He was convicted after a contested hearing at Derry Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The district judge branded him a “racist” and will sentence him on February 14, 2025.

Foyle MP Colum Eastwood said: “There’s no place in our city for these kind of racist, fascist threats.

“Lilian has already proven what a capable and compassionate public representative she is through her time as our Mayor.

“No threats have ever deterred her or me from doing our jobs standing up for the people of Derry.

“I regret that some narrow minded people have put themselves in jeopardy by foolishly posting menacing and abusive threats.

“I am glad that the matter has now been dealt with.”
