A Freeze the Cuts “We Must End Fuel Poverty” public meeting will be held next week in Derry with Pat Austin, Director of National Energy Action.
National Energy Action (NEA) is a charity dedicated to ending fuel poverty across the North and in Britain.
Freeze the Cuts spokesperson Ellen Moore said: “It’s great that Pat Austin will be joining us. She is a dedicated campaigner against fuel poverty.
“NEA campaigns for specific proposals to be acted on urgently by the Stormont Executive to address the rising and disproportionate levels of fuel poverty here.
“NEA also provides advice, support, advocacy, and training to households struggling to afford heating. They work closely with partners to improve energy efficiency and health outcomes.
“The cost of living crisis has left many of us frightened to turn on the heating, while energy companies rake in massive profits.
“Instead of helping pensioners like myself, decisions in Westminster and Stormont have made it even more difficult to survive in the winter months.
“This meeting will bring together trade unions, campaigners, and charities as we unite to focus on the campaign to overturn the cuts to the Winter Fuel Payment and the campaign to end fuel poverty.”
The meeting takes place in the Ráth Mór Centre, Creggan, on Tuesday 17th December at 11am and can also be attended online via Zoom.
Organisers say all are welcome.
