A manufacturing automation company in Derry is to carry out a multi-million pound contract at the US production site of sister company Bloc Blinds.

FAST Technologies will be integrating its advanced manufacturing technologies at Bloc Blinds’ site in Texas, to streamline the customisation and manufacture of blinds.

The company said that as a result, Bloc will be able to scale up its production process and turn around customer orders within 24 hours, following growing demand for its products.

FAST Technologies uses automation technologies like advanced robotics, machine learning and data analytics to improve production processes.

Bloc Group made a major investment in FAST Technologies in 2021.

FAST said its ‘Dreamaker’ system, which will be used by Bloc Blinds in the US, can enhance precision and reduce repetitive tasks – leaving workers to focus on more skilled tasks.

Colin Spence, technical commercial director from FAST, said the company was able to “push the boundaries” of industrial automation.

“This contract highlights FAST’s reputation for delivering advanced automation technologies that can adapt according to their customers’ needs.

“We believe this is a ground-breaking advancement in automation for the North American market and we are extremely proud to be part of this progressive partnership.”

FAST said it’s well-placed to secure other big contracts following expansion in the last few years, including the opening of a new hub at Catalyst Innovation Centre, Derry.

Cormac Diamond, Bloc managing director, added: “Our facility is pioneering the production process, and this will be enhanced thanks to the innovative robotic systems and automated technologies delivered by the experts at FAST.

“We’re now best equipped to meet growing customer demand, drive efficiencies and manage issues such as labour shortage and spiralling energy costs which are common to all manufacturers today.”
