SDLP Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan

Fears that roadworks on the A5 Victoria Road, Strabane could cause delays for travelling Derry City fans heading to Dublin this Sunday for the FAI Cup have now been allayed.

Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd has said that his department has “engaged with the contractor and arranged to deploy additional resources to substantially complete the scheme by Saturday evening. The road will be open to traffic on Sunday.”

SDLP Foyle MLA, Mark H Durkan said: “Delighted to see that common sense has prevailed annd that arrangements have been made to deploy additional resources to ensure the A5 route is fully open for Derry City fans travelling to Dublin ahead of the game on Sunday.

“The excitement is palpable as fans, myself included, look forward to the final.

“Whether you’re driving, carpooling, or using public transport, I would urge everyone to allow plenty of time for their journey, to travel safely and look out for one another.

“Here’s hoping we’re coming back home victorious. Come on the Candystripes!”
