Freeze the Cuts and Unite the Union Retired Members are calling for the reinstatement of the Winter Fuel Payment.

Freeze the Cuts campaigner Ellen Moore said: “It’s getting colder and many older people are thinking about what the Winter will bring.

“We sent Postcards signed by many people directly to the DfC Minister Gordon Lyons calling for the Stormont Executive to reinstate the Winter Fuel Payment.

“Next week, we will be in the Council Chamber to make it clear why everything possible should be done to pressure Keir Starmer to reverse this cut.

UNITE the Union Retired Members representative Harry McBride said: “We’re protesting because the so-called Labour government has decided to make older people suffer rather than the boys with the broad shoulders.”

A Special Full Council Winter Fuel Payment meeting at 2pm next Tuesday (October 29) will hear from Freeze the Cuts campaign, Unite and Age NI representatives.
