Cusack calls for considerate parking by students

Independent councillor Shauna Cusack

Independent Councillor for Foyleside Shauna Cusack has called on students and users of the Magee campus of Ulster University to yet again prioritise safety and consideration when parking.

Said Cllr Cusack: “It’s a case of here we go again, as another new University year commences, the old problem of inconsiderate and even dangerous parking returns.

“I have received numerous reports from residents of the Northland streets, lower Rosemount and other areas close to Magee who have been negatively impacted by vehicles either blocking driveways, sight lines and footpaths.

“Some have even prevented residents from exiting their homes from own driveways with one lady having to call a taxi to get her to a hospital appointment. This is simply not on.

“I understand the PSNI have been involved in a number of incidences with one car being removed by them.

“The University has been made aware and I hope they undertake an information session for new students to advise them of the impact of their parking on the local community as well as the serious issue of emergency service access.

“I understand there will be a meeting with the University and stakeholders soon and have asked that the parking issue be top of the agenda.

“Meanwhile, I would appeal to vehicle owners to please show consideration for others and if approached by residents who have reasonable concerns show them the courtesy and respect they deserve.

“My advice to residents is to call the PSNI and report immediately if any parking is blocking them or a health and safety issue,” she added.
