Local community invited to local wind farm consultation event

Evishagaran Wind Farm Limited (an associated company of ERG UK Holding Ltd), owners and operators of Evishagaran Wind Farm, is holding a public consultation event to gather opinions ahead of a proposed extension to the site.

Drop-in sessions being held on Wednesday 18th September 2024, at Dungiven Sports Centre will provide an opportunity for members of the local community to find out more about the proposed extension to the site and share their views on the development.

Evishagaran Wind Farm, located in the townlands of Evishagaran and Cruckanim, east of Dungiven, currently powers up to 26,000 homes and reducing carbon emissions by approximately 77,850 tonnes annually.

The wind farm has already contributed £12.5 million to the Northern Ireland economy through job creation, construction, and the use of local services.

Additionally, the ERG Evishagaran and Craiggore Community Benefit Fund, administered by The Community Foundation Northern Ireland, has supported over 30 local groups, funding a variety of projects that enhance the local community.

Building on this success, ERG plans to submit a regionally significant planning application to add approximately nine additional wind turbines to the site.

The proposed extension would generate enough low carbon, renewable energy to power an additional 17,000 homes and offset approximately 61,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.

The extension, if approved, will also create additional jobs during the construction phase and further engage local businesses and the supply chain.

Martina Tully, Business Development at ERG said: “It’s really important to us that we engage proactively with the community at this early stage regarding the proposed extension at Evishagaran and we look forward to welcoming guests to the consultation event on 18th September.

“Our development team will be on hand to offer local residents and interested parties the chance to learn more about the extension plans, ask questions, and provide valuable feedback.

“We value the opinions of the local community and I would encourage everyone to attend the drop-in sessions.”

Feedback can also be provided via the ERG website: www.erguk.energy/evishagaran/evishagaran-extension
