UAR Derry: British Government pandering to far right

United Against Racism Derry condemns the British Government’s recent decision to increase deportations and reopen immigration detention centres.

Spokesperson Davy McAuley explained why the group opposed Government policy.

He said: “This move is a clear pandering to the far-right and contributes to the already hostile environment towards immigrants in the UK.

“The reopening of facilities such as Campsfield House and Haslar, which were previously closed due to severe issues including hunger strikes, self-harm, and suicides, is a step backward.

“These centers have been known to inflict severe harm on vulnerable individuals, and their reopening will only exacerbate the suffering of those detained.

“This policy not only demonises immigrants but also perpetuates a narrative that dehumanises those seeking refuge and a better life.

“It is a stark reminder of how populist and pathetic the Starmer version of the Labour Party is.

“The British media have done their worst to push hatred against refugees and any non white immigrant.

“In the last few days the contrast in media coverage between the sinking of a billionaire’s yacht in the Mediterranean and the countless deaths of refugees in the same waters has been stark.

“Glowing tributes paid to billionaires on pleasure crafts, the whole world hears of their plight, while unnamed refugees barely get mentioned.

“UAR Derry will fight any moves to scapegoat immigrants by the UK Government.

“We will fight against deportations and wrongful imprisonment of those seeking refuge.

“UAR will continue to challenge the lies and prejudice of the mainstream media and the billionaires who own it.

“This is a time the Labour Party should be fighting fascists not giving into their demands,” he added.
