Condemnation over racist graffiti in Ballykelly

United Against Racism Derry have condemned racist graffiti and attacks on homes in Ballykelly.

Spokesperson Davy McAuley spoke of the need to stamp out racist actions before the far right get a foothold:

“There is deep concern and outrage regarding the recent incidents of racist graffiti sprayed on properties in Ballykelly, amongst the local community .

“These hate crimes are clearly on the increase. The painting of swastikas on NHS workers’ homes in Antrim show the mentality of the people carrying out these type of attacks.

“UAR stand firmly alongside our migrant communities and will organise to protect them and continue make sure they are welcome.

“The rise of the far right in the 26 Counties cannot be allowed to keep on spreading.

“We stand with those opposing racism in every part of this Island.

“The disgusting far-right rallies and violence in Southport and London, show up these fascists for what they really are.

“To try and incite race hate by using the murder of young children is absolutely abhorrent.

“These rallies organised by supporters of ‘Tommy Robinson’ cannot be tolerated here.

“It is essential to recognise that Tommy Robinson, real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has a history of criminal convictions, including mortgage fraud.

“Yaxley-Lennon has spewed anti Irish hatred for years but now ironically is using an Irish passport to travel across Europe to avoid more criminal charges in England.

“He talks about immigrants being criminals while he seeks refuge in other countries as a convicted racist, fraudster and thug.

“Runaway Derry man Hermann Kelly is using the same tactics in Coolock and Dundalk as ‘Robinson’ uses in England.

“Disinformation, flat out lies and racist intimidation are the way of the Irish Freedom Party.

“The arson attacks at the former Crown Paints factory in Coolock, a site intended to house vulnerable people are reprehensible.

“The attempts to bring fascists onto the streets, towns and villages across Ireland have been and will be met with organised, anti racist resistance.

“The vast majority of people in this society are horrified by racism and the scapegoating of immigrants. UAR will work tirelessly to make sure that their voices drown out the racist hatred of the far right.”
