The organisers of the O’Neill’s Foyle Cup have paid a warm tribute to everyone who made the 2024 tournament the success it was.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the organisers say: “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time’

“What this event promotes is important and is huge – cross community contact; good relations; promoting active participation of our young people in a healthy living lifestyle, in a manner which also contributes immensely to the north west economy.

“Well done us; well done referees; well done hoteliers and those letting accommodation; well done restaurants and cafes; well done transport companies and taxi companies; well done those involved in retail; well done people of north west for welcome afforded our visitors; well done club coaches /managers; well done parents and especially well done young players, boys and girls.

“Thank you to all of our local sponsors. Especially well done Derry City and Strabane District Council, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council staff who prepared, maintained football grounds and all the wonderful clubs which allowed us to use their much valued facilities and your kindness to visitors alike.

“Well done Keith and Ryan from Derry Strabane District Council – so firmly committed to making this event the success it is; many thanks to those who were admin in tournament office – Jade, David, Margaret, Diolain, Dick, Ken, Philip, Colly, Gerry and David McL.

“And Donal our ever helpful and accommodating minibus driver.

“Next year’s event will be July 21- July 26 – entry form on site next week!!!”

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Lilia Seenoi-Barr said: “What an incredible week at the O’Neills Foyle Cup! ⚽️

“With a record-breaking 13,000 young people from 746 teams playing nearly 3,000 games, this was the largest tournament in its 32-year history👏🏻
