Searches involving a helicopter, police dogs, and a drone failed to locate the driver of a vehicle who reportedly fled the scene of a crash on the Glenshane Road near Dungiven on Sunday night.
A four-vehicle collision on the Glenshane, between Dungiven and Maghera in Co Derry at around 11pm on Sunday, forced the closure of the busy main road.
A woman was taken to hospital following the collision with injuries police say are not believed to be serious.
Police say the driver of one of the vehicles was reported to have “made off from the scene” but the male driver was not located.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police received a report at approximately 11pm on Sunday evening, 23rd June of a four-vehicle road traffic collision on the Glenshane Road, Dungiven.
“Officers attended, alongside colleagues from other emergency services. It was reported a driver of one of the vehicles had made off from the scene.
“A woman required hospital treatment for her injuries – which are not believed to be serious. No other injuries were reported.”
The police spokesperson added: “Efforts were made by officers to find the driver who left the scene using police dogs, a drone and our Air Support Unit.
“However, he was not located.
“Enquires remain ongoing and we are keen to hear from anyone with information about what happened, or who has dash-cam or mobile phone footage of the collision to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 1864 23/06/24.”
