A man from Derry caught driving at 154km/h on a busy Donegal road has been fined €500.

Emmet O’Doherty was clocked by Garda Sean Tully at 8.50pm on May 31, 2023 at Killyverry, Newtowncunningham on the N13.

O’Doherty, a 41-year-old of Knockalla Park in Derry, was stopped by gardai and spoken to about his driving.

Garda Tully confirmed to Letterkenny District Court that he showed O’Doherty the speed gun.

A fixed charge penalty notice was issued on June 10, 2023, but was unpaid.

O’Doherty, who has no previous convictions, was not present and was not legally represented when his case came before the court.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham found the facts proven in O’Doherty’s absence.

Judge Cunningham described the speed as being “significantly dangerous”.

O’Doherty was convicted and fined €500.

He was given five months to pay the fine.
