A man has died after falling while out hillwalking near Dunlewley in Co Donegal.

He has been named locally as Brian Campbell from Derry, aged in his 50s.

“You were a true gentleman and you will be sorely missed,” said one tribute to Brian today.

The tragic accident happened around 1pm yesterday afternoon.

The man, who was in his 50s, was walking with another man at Cró Nimhe, when he sustained fatal injuries in a fall.

Following a recovery operation, he was taken from the mountain and brought to the mortuary at Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH).

The local coroner has been informed and preparations are being made for a post-mortem examination.

The second man, also aged in his late 50s, suffered injuries and was airlifted from the scene to LUH.

His injuries have been described as non-life threatening.
