Strabane shoppers were treated to a bit of extra sparkle throughout the town over Christmas thanks to the Strabane Bid Christmas display competition.

The competition is an initiative by the Strabane Business Improvement District, and aims to encourage businesses to get into the festive spirit and enhance the overall Christmas shopping experience for visitors.

The winners were all selected by public vote, and local boutique Lemonade scooped the first place prize of £1,000, while the second place prize of £500 was awarded to Valerie Manning Jewellery and third prize of £250 went to Bejeweled at Soul.

Congratulating the winners, Mayor of Derry and Strabane, Councillor Patricia Logue, said: “I am delighted to see the standard of entries in this year’s competition and to see customers coming out in support of their favourite stores.

“Seasonal shopping campaigns provide a great opportunity for businesses to showcase their products and services and connect with new customers.

“It really enhances the wider retail experience to the benefit of the entire business community and I want to thank all those businesses who took part.

“Well done to all the winners, I hope they all see the benefit of their efforts right throughout the new year.”

The initiative was just one element in the wider Love Strabane campaign led by Strabane BID to drive footfall into the town over the Christmas period, as BID Chair Kieran Kennedy explained.

“Strabane has a strong business community that works together to identify new opportunities to boost trade, and the Christmas display competition is just one of the initiatives aimed at bringing new customers into the town.

“I was delighted to see so many businesses participating this year, and the creativity that went into enhancing the Christmas retail experience for shoppers.

“The Strabane Gift Card also proved extremely popular with customers keen to support their local traders, and there was a big focus on shopping local this year.

“I would encourage everyone to shop local when they can and help boost the local economy, as this has a positive impact for everyone in terms of encouraging new businesses and driving investment in the area.”
