Derry Cost of Living Crisis Campaign spokesperson Ellen Moore

Derry Cost of Living Crisis Campaign spokesperson Ellen Moore said people in Derry have nothing to cheer about in cost of living crisis.

She said: “The Tories are celebrating a slight drop in inflation but there’s nothing to celebrate for the vast majority of people.

“Prices are still far too high and the vast majority of households continue to struggle to pay basic bills.

“It’s gross that so many companies continue to post record profits.

“As we move into the darker and colder nights many households will struggle to heat their homes.

“We welcome the strikes for fair pay by health and social care workers, lecturers, journalists, DfI Roads Service workers and underpaid civil servants. We have no choice but to take action.

“We need to broaden out the resistance to drive back Tory plans to impose further charges here for water, prescriptions and tuition.

“We encourage support for the picket lines and for further action aimed at challenging inequality.”
