The hijacked Ford Mondeo car outside Waterside police station last November

A 22-year-old man arrested under the Terrorism Act in Derry on Thursday, August 24, has been released following questioning.

He was arrested by detectives investigating a vehicle hijacking and subsequent security alert outside a police station at Richill Park in the Waterside area of the city on Sunday, November 20, 2022.

The investigation continues.

Police continue to appeal to anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1664 of 20/11/22.

Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org

A grey Ford Mondeo car belonging to a food delivery driver was hijacked in the Curryneirin area that night by masked men.

He was ordered at gunpoint to drive the saloon car to a police station at Richill Park in the Waterside.

Initially, police said a device on board was a “hoax” but 24 hours later police chiefs revealed that it was in fact a “viable device”.
