In the picturesque village of Carrick, sheltered by the mighty Sliabh Liag, Seamus and Nora Gallagher are celebrating the expansion of their business, Donegal E-Bikes.

With fourteen years’ experience in the sales and rental of electric bikes, this husband-and-wife team have just opened a new bike shop, in the historic building that once was the “Crystal Cinema”.  The premises is centrally located, right beside Carrick Bridge.

E-bikes have become increasingly popular in recent years.  They’re recognised as a safe and reliable mode of transport whether you’re commuting or biking for pleasure. With better bikes and batteries coming to the market, Seamus is confident that there is an e-bike for everyone.

Donegal E-Bikes: Seamus and Nora

Seamus said: “It’s very important to us that each person who walks in our door finds the right bike for them.  Therefore, we decided a while back to focus on selling face to face rather than just trading online. We would rather meet the customer so that we can give them all the information they need about the bike and ensure they are happy with their choice.”

The company are an official supplier of the Cycle to Work Scheme, which can save a buyer up to €762 on the cost of a new e-bike, a great incentive to get out on the road!

Donegal E-Bikes is not the only business being managed by the Gallaghers.  They also run the very popular Ireland By Bike, which offers self-guided cycling tours, complete with luggage transfers and qualilty accommodation. Taking tourists around the North-West Coast, the tours have received excellent reviews and have become a firm favourite for both international and Irish holiday makers.

Donegal E-Bikes are based in the Gaeltacht village of An Charraig (Carrick)

Speaking on the opening of the shop, Nora is delighted to have a new base for their business; “We’re just over the moon to have the new shop open.  We had run out of space where we were and with the company growing, we feel it was definitely the right decision. In this building we can easily operate sales & rentals, and we have a dedicated area to carry out bike servicing, which has become an important part of the business.

“For beginners who may not want to book a full holiday tour of four to seven days, the one-day tour of the Donegal coast is the best place to start.  Heading from Carrick, you can take in all the fabulous sights, including the majestic Sliabh Liag viewing point and the Silver Strand Beach — effortlessly manoeuvring the majestic hills of Donegal.”

If you’re in the market to purchase an e-bike, Seamus and Nora recommend first booking a day tour, the cost of which will be refunded if you later decide to buy a new e-bike from Donegal E-bikes — making it the most scenic test drive in Ireland!
