McLaughlin calls for footpath along Ardmore Road

SDLP Foyle MLA Sinead McLaughlin

SDLP Foyle MLA Sinéad McLaughlin has called for a footpath to be created along the Ardmore Road, saying that the current lack of provision is putting children’s lives at risk.

Said the Foyle MLA: “The residents who have contacted me regarding the need for a footpath in Ardmore are understandably extremely concerned.

“Clearly it is a treacherous road with no lighting and the lack of a footpath is causing huge anxiety among residents whose children and neighbours regularly walk to and from the local GAA club.

“I have engaged with the Department for Infrastructure on this matter who have already undertaken an initial assessment.

“I understand that if the scheme is seen to be viable then a full Technical Assessment will proceed.

“At a time when we are asking more people to get out of their cars and engage in active travel, it’s vitally important that areas like this are made safe for everyone.

“I will continue to engage with the Department with a view to ensuring that this footpath is put in place as quickly as possible.”
