Police say the four attackers fled towards Bishop Street

Police in Derry say a 12-year-old schoolboy was treated for concussion following a sectarian hate crime assault in the city on Monday, May 29, 2023.

Three teenage boys and a teenage girl are said to have been involved in the attack.

The victim was kicked on the leg and punched in the face during an attack around 1.10 pm at the city’s walls near the Fountain area.

The four attackers fled towards Bishop Street after a member of the public shouted at them.

PSNI Inspector Michael Gahan described the attack as a “nasty assault which has left the victim understandably distressed”.

“This assault is being investigated as a sectarian hate crime,” he added.

Police said the victim was treated in hospital for injuries which included concussion.

“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has Dash Cam which may have recorded the incident or offenders to contact police quoting CW1061, 29/05/33,” added Inspector McGahan.
