Tributes paid at sad passing of Derry FC steward Paul Doherty

Heartfelt tributes have been paid to long-standing Derry City FC steward Paul Doherty who has sadly passed away.

Derry City has led the tributes following news of Mr. Doherty’s untimely passing.

“Derry City FC is deeply saddened to learn of the death of our friend and club steward, Paul Doherty,” the club said in a Facebook posting.

“Paul was a long-serving and dedicated member of our match-night team and his friendly, good natured personality made him very popular at the Brandywell.

“Our sincere condolences to the entire family circle at this very difficult time.

“May his gentle soul Rest In Peace,” the club added.

Billy Scampton wrote on the City page: “Lovely tribute to a loyal servant of the club for many years who will be greatly missed by all of us who worked or knew Paul.

“May God rest his gentle soul.”

Sean Donnelly wrote: “An absolute gentleman gone to soon.

“Condolences to the Doherty family and the wider circle.

“Rest In Eternal Peace Paul.”

Nucker Tierney posted: “Paul was a gentleman who loved the banter at Brandywell. RIP.

“Condolences to his family and friends.”
