Big turn out at Save Radio Foyle meeting held in Derry’s Guildhall in January this year which was addressed by Mayor Sandra Duffy

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Sandra Duffy, has expressed her solidarity with BBC Radio Foyle NUJ members who have confirmed they will be striking for 24 hours from this Friday, May 19, in protest at the recent cuts at the station.

Staff in Derry and Belfast voted 83 per cent in favour of strike in a NUJ ballot of its members.

Said Mayor Duffy: “I fully support the decision by BBC journalists at BBC Radio Foyle to go on strike next Friday 19 May.

“The recent cuts to programming and the demise of the Radio Foyle schedule has been detrimental to the city and region and needs to be overturned immediately.

“We need as many people as possible to join with them on the picket lines this Friday.”
