Mourners gather for the joint funerals of Dan and Christine McKane in Strabane

The funerals have been held for a brother and sister who were among three people killed in a horror crash in Co Tyrone last week.

Dan and Christine McKane were together after the joint Requiem Mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Strabane.

They died, alongside their aunt Julia McSorley, when the minibus they were travelling in was in a collision with a lorry near Aughnacloy last Thursday.

Seven members of the extended family were travelling back from a funeral in England when their minibus was involved in a collision with an articulated lorry.

Four other family members were injured and two remain in hospital.

In Strabane today, a large crowd of mourners followed the two coffins as they were carried side by side into the church.

Members of Naomh Eoghan GAA club in Newtownstewart and Raphoe Boxing Club provided a guard of honour for the coffins.

Father Declan Boland welcomed Commandant Brian Walsh – President Michael D Higgin’s aide de camp – who had brought a message of condolence.

Mourners were told that the community was “wounded by grief, our pain is deep”.

Ms McSorley’s funeral took place in Newtonstewart on Sunday, April 30, where mourners heard that the community had been “engulfed in grief” following the tragedy.

Fr Roland Colhoun told mourners in St Eugene’s Church in Glenock that Ms McSorley was “selfless, smiling, kind and bubbly”.
