Pulis praises quick response of firefighters in Drumahoe

People Before Profit Waterside representative Davina Pulis

People Before Profit Waterside Representative Davina Pulis has praised the Fire and Rescue Service for their professionalism in dealing with two fires in Drumahoe last night.

“Without the speedy response and bravery of our fire service these incidents could have been much worse,” she said.

“We thank them for their service.”

The People Before Profit representative said that the old Faughan Valley School where one of the blazes took place should have been demolished long ago.

“The school closed in 2004. All kinds of promises were made to residents as to what would happen to the site but none of these were ever delivered.

“It is disgraceful that almost 20 years later the site remains a dangerous wreck of a building. An eyesore and a magnet for anti social activity.

“There was an opportunity long ago to save the building and create a community space, however that has now gone and demolition should commence at once.

“People Before Profit would like to implement a full community consultation so the residents of Drumahoe have their say about future use of the Drumahoe Road site.”
