Derry and Strabane Enterprise Week 2023 is aiming to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs in the City and District with a number of events specifically aimed at young people next week.

The week long programme from Monday, March 6 to Friday, March 10, will feature panel discussions, workshops and networking opportunities to support budding and existing entrepreneurs on their business journey.

This year’s Enterprise Week has the theme of ‘Seeds of Change’ and will celebrate the diversity of Micro Businesses and SMEs in the North West who have experienced significant growth in recent times.

“We are seeing more and more young people in our Council area successfully navigating the challenges of start-up to build successful and sustainable businesses,” said Head of Business at Derry City and Strabane District Council, Kevin O’Connor.

“If an entrepreneur has the drive and vision to make a business idea a reality then, with the right guidance, age is not a barrier.

“Our Business team are keen to engage with young people to support the next generation of entrepreneurs and we are delighted to host a number of events especially for young people in this year’s programme.”

On Tuesday, March 7, Young Enterprise will host the Let’s Make IT Tech competition which invites local primary school children to participate in a classroom challenge to transform an everyday item into a digital technology product.

Later in the week on Thursday 9th, Generation Innovation at the Guildhall will be hosted by Catalyst with support from Seagate and aims to inspire young adults to develop an entrepreneurial mindset.

The day long design thinking experience for groups of students aged 16-18 years old will take them on a design thinking journey that will lead them from identifying a problem to working through the design stages before building a prototype.

Students will learn important skills at each stage of the process including user-centred design, working in a team and critical thinking.

The day will finish with a presentation by a number of partner companies who will demonstrate some innovative technology and share their own start up journey.

This event is closed for open registration, but for further information please contact Catalyst for more information – https://wearecatalyst.org/programmes/generation-innovation/
