O’Neill: Main Stormont parties offer no alternative to Tory NHS assault

Altnagelvin Hospital worker and PBP Councillor Maeve O’Neill

People Before Profit Councillor Maeve O’Neill has accused the main parties at Stormont of offering no alternative to the assault on the NHS by the Tories:

Said Cllr O’Neill: “I watched the The View programme on BBC where Health spokespeople for the five main parties had the opportunity to talk about the crisis in our health and social care system.

“As a frontline worker in Altnagelvin Hospital, it is beyond frustrating for me and my colleagues to hear no one offer an alternative to the Tory assault on the NHS.

“Not one of the representatives talked about the need for above inflation pay increases for health and social care workers.

“No one talked about the reality on the ground for staff and patients.

“No one talked about escalating privatisation.

“No one talked about the decades of underinvestment and the devaluation of care.

“No one talked about public health.

“They just did the same old “transformation” chat with no actual direction.

“All the main Stormont parties – DUP, Sinn Féin, Alliance, SDLP and UUP – have opted to vote through Tory pay cuts and greenlight deepening privatisation.

“Supporting the healthcare strikes is our main hope for stopping further pay cuts, ending the staffing crisis and forcing government to properly invest in the NHS.

“A genuine campaign to defend the concept of a NHS that’s free for all from the cradel to the grave needs feet on the street.”
