Armed Response Unit officers used battering ram to get into Co Derry house

A MAN has been detained after police raided a house in Co Derry yesterday, Tuesday, February 7, 2023.

The Irish News reports that the PSNI’s armed response unit were involved in the operation at Golf Terrace in Magherafelt.

Officers used a battering ram to gain entry to the house, which is in the Ballyronan Road area.

The newspaper reports that the man had earlier been involved in an incident at a shop in the market town.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police responded to reports of a man behaving erratically in the Ballyronan Road area of Magherafelt on Tuesday morning.

“The man then made his way to an address in Golf Terrace where officers, concerned for his welfare, forced entry.

“The man was detained and will now be taken for appropriate treatment.”

Mid Ulster MLA Patsy McGlone said: “I am glad the situation has been resolved.”
