Harkin: Solidarity with NHS pay revolt

People Before Profit Councillor Shaun Harkin said his party fully supports the NHS pay revolt by nurses and health workers.

Said Cllr HarkinL “People Before Profit stand in full solidarity with all nurses taking strike action – and all NHS workers involved in industrial action this month.

“Despite Tory efforts to demonise healthcare workers, led by a multi-millionaire PM and amplified by the The Sun, Daily Mail and Belfast News Letter editor Ben Lowry, public support for nurses and all health and social care worker is massive.

“The working class and all progressives understand mass direct action is needed and more must follow to break Tory rule for a tiny corrupt elite.

“Westminster and Stormont governments have spent years undermining the NHS, slashing pay and attacking trade unions.

“The DUP supports the Tories no matter how vicious their attacks on working class communities.

“The rest of the former Stormont Executive crow their opposition to the Tories but vote for NHS pay cuts and back Tory engineered NHS austerity. When they’ve had the chance they’ve done the wrong thing.

“Change has always come through action from below. The future depends on that. The pay revolt must escalate into the new year.

“We need united action by all trade unions backed up by people power mobilisations involving everyone outside the elite golden circle.

“Let’s turn the Tory winter of pain into a united winter of resistance.”
