Glenda Johnston, Campus Manager of NWRC Strabane.

North West Regional College (NWRC) has appointed a new manager at its campus in Strabane.

Glenda Johnston is a lecturer at NWRC and brings with her two decades of experience working in Healthcare, Training and Skills, Social Science, and Early Years.

The mum of two, a former nurse, says her top priority is to ensure that all learners have the best experience while studying at Strabane Campus.

Situated on the Derry Road, NWRC has been supporting the learning and career ambitions of local people from across the Derg Mourne region for decades.

The campus provides teaching from award-winning lecturers in facilities that include a dental surgery, hair and beauty salons, vocational training workshops, a fully resourced IT suite, library and learning resource centre, careers service, and student recreational area.

And Glenda says she has plans to expand the range of courses offered at Strabane.

She says: “NWRC Strabane has a key role to play in the lives of the local community through our full and part-time courses, as well as the courses we offer locally in community hubs across County Tyrone.

“Currently we provide Further Education courses in Early Years, I.T. Health and Social Care, Counselling, Access Adult Learning Diploma, Dental Nursing, Recreation courses, Hairdressing, Beauty, and Barbering, and a Higher Education HND in Early Years.

“Strabane Campus has a fantastic track record for supporting students into further study and careers in their chosen fields.

“I’m delighted that ten of our Access Adults Learners from last year have completed their courses and have now progressed to further study in health with courses that include nursing and occupational therapy.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues across all five NWRC campuses in the North West to develop and grow our Higher Education (post-A-Level) programme allowing local people the option of studying more University Level courses on their doorstep.

“With our strong foundations, we intend to build on what we have already achieved at Strabane.

“We are extremely proud of our School Links programme with local post-primary schools Holy Cross, Knockavoe, and Castlederg High attending the campus weekly to study vocational courses.”

Gillian Moss, Head of Client Services at NWRC said: “On behalf of the Governing Body I offer my congratulations to Glenda as she takes on this new role.

“I’m sure Glenda will work hard on behalf of all the staff and students to build on the success of the Strabane campus by delivering a curriculum relevant to today’s students and employers.

“NWRC Strabane provides an integral role in the local area for people seeking to access education, training and skills. We wish her the very best and look forward to seeing the Strabane campus continue to develop.”
