Harkin: Above Inflation pay rise for nurses now

Derry nurses on strike in January 2020 over pay parity and safety in hospitals for patients and staff

People Before Profit Cllr Shaun Harkin has called for an immediate above inflation pay rise for nurses.

Said Cllr Harkin: “Enough is enough. People Before Profit fully back the Royal College of Nursing demand for a pay rise of 5% above inflation.

“Westminster and Stormont have treated our nurses, health and social care workers dismally for years.

“Even this year all the major Stormont parties supported yet another disgraceful Tory pay cut for our health heroes.

“Again and again they have chosen to implement Tory attacks rather than stand-up for workers, the vulnerable and our public services.

“We encourage all RCN members and all workers in the health service to vote yes for industrial action.

“This is the only way to send a clear message to Westminster and Stormont that we are prepared to fight pay cuts and will fight to save our health service.

“United people power can do what Westminster and Stormont refuse to do.

“Now is the time for action.

“Now is the time for solidarity.

“Now is the time to for all of us to enough is enough.”
