SDLP Foyle MLA Sinead McLaughlin

SDLP Foyle MLA Sinéad McLaughlin has welcomed the award of funding to Derry City and Strabane District Council by the Shared Island Local Authority Development Funding Scheme.

The funding will enable the delivery of a number of cross-border projects including a North West De-Carb Exemplar Decarbonised Public Building and Transportation project and a North West Regulatory Technology Cluster.

Said the Foyle MLA: “The announcement of this funding is extremely welcome and in particular, I am very pleased that the decarbonisation public building and transportation project will enable the North West to lead on our important cross-border shared priority to tackle the climate crisis and ensure we play our full role to protect our island for generations to come.

“Other projects included in this funding package will also enable us to lead the way in world-class technology research as well as develop our tourism industry which is vital for the future of Derry’s economy.

“There is no doubt that these innovative projects are an exciting opportunity for Derry.

“I believe that we should be doing everything possible to strengthen our relationships across the island and build on this excellent work so we can maximise the potential of our cross-border economy.”
