SDLP Foyle MLA Sinead McLaughlin

SDLP Derry Assembly representative Sinéad McLaughlin has welcomed the launch of a new service intended to support those impacted by mother and baby institutions, Magdalene Laundries and Workhouses.

Said the Foyle MLA: “There is no doubt that victims of these institutions were badly failed by the state and religious institutions, as recently as 1990.

“The SDLP has long campaigned for effective and accessible wellbeing support to accompany appropriate financial support for these victims who were treated so appallingly.

“I wholeheartedly welcome the launch of this new service that has been co-designed by the victims and survivors and would commend the collaboration of the Victims and Survivors Service, the Wave Trauma Centre and Adopt NI in developing such an essential service.

“I would like to assure them of our support in ensuring a service that is responsive to individual needs.”
