SDLP Ballyarnett councillor Rory Farrell

SDLP Councillor Rory Farrell has said that the DUP must return to government and deliver on its election promise of investing a further £1 billion in the health service.

Commenting on the latest figures released for emergency department waiting times released by the Department of Health, the Ballyarnett representative said:

“Targets state that 95% of people should be treated within 4 hours at A&E and that no one should wait longer than 12 hours.

“No hospital across the north is meeting these targets and only 33.3% of people were treated within 4 hours at Altnagelvin in June, while 1,049 had to wait over 12 hours.

“For the same month last year 42.7% were treated within 4 hours and 617 people had to wait longer than 12 hours, so the situation is not improving.”

Cllr Farrell added: “The DUP promised an extra £1 billion to fix our health service.

“They said it was their number one priority, but they refuse to form a government.

“The really need to get back to work and deliver on their election pledge.”
