There were sweet treats, savoury snacks and thirst-quenching drinks flowing at the weekend as more than 20,000 people visited the Quay for the LegenDerry Street Food Festival.

The festival took place from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th July, and shone a spotlight on local businesses using the best of local ingredients as visitors enjoyed everything from burgers to craft beers.

It was all part of the build-up to the Foyle Maritime Festival, which gets underway on the city’s Quayside from tomorrow, Wednesday, until Sunday.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Sandra Duffy, said the atmosphere at the food festival was amazing.

“It was great to call down and try a few delicious delicacies and beverages and soak up the brilliant buzz along the Quay.

“The food and drink on offer were of the highest quality and a real celebration of our local produce.

“It typified the great work that LegenDerry Food are continuing to do in shining a spotlight on our local businesses and bringing their offerings to even more people,” said Mayor Duffy.

“The fact that there were more than 20,000 people who visited across the three days of the festival shows what a massive success it was.

“There was food, drinks, music, and lots of smiling and laughing – it was the perfect way to build up to the start of the Maritime Festival.

“Like many of our events, we had to wait a long time for the return of the LegenDerry Street Food Festival, but it was certainly well worth it.

“Well done to the organisers and all the local participating businesses on a hugely successful weekend and I look forward to more of these brilliant events in the future.”

Jennifer O’Donnell, Council’s Tourism Manager, added: “The return of our LegenDerry Street Food Festival was even more of a success than we could have hoped for.

“We were absolutely delighted to see tens of thousands of people out and supporting our local food businesses.

“From the barbeque to the pizzas to the bubble waffles to the local beers and spirits, everything was a big hit and it highlighted the great food network that we have here in our City and District.”

Vendors who took part in the LegenDerry festival included Doherty’s; Fairley’s Flavours; Foyle Bubble Waffle; La Tia Juana; Lo & Slo; Nonnas; Offing Coffee; Silver Bean and The Dirty Souls, all washed down with a selection of the finest craft beers and exclusive cocktails using local spirits from The Walled City Brewery, Rough Bros, and Wild Atlantic Distillery.
