The students who were part of the Princes Trust Team Programme, raised £200 as part of their community project, which they handed over to the group at the Farlow Woods and Sampson Tower site, where they completed their conservation work.
The money will now be used for further conservation work at that spot.
Denis McLaughlin, Team Leader at NWRC Limavady, said the project involved 4 weeks of hard work and determination by the students.
He added: “I’d like to thank all the students and the volunteers and directors at RVAR for their commitment to this project.
“We are delighted to be able to hand over the money we have raised through our community project where students worked alongside RVAR in an upcycling project and sale event, holding a special fundraising market to sell the items they worked on.
“Items on sale include various upcycled bric a brac and furniture.
“The students also organised their own sponsored walk.
“Farlow Woods was once an unused woodland and through much hard work it is now accessible to all people in the community, with plans to offer educational programmes as well as a forest school.
“We were happy to play our part in supporting the work that goes on there. “
Betty Robinson, Director of RVAR said: “On behalf of everyone in our group I would like to thank the students for this donation.
“All of the volunteers enjoyed their time working with the team, particularly their work in the woods on the Live Here Love Here Project.
“We also assisted the students with their upcycling event which was a huge success.
“We were delighted to welcome young people to work with us at RVAR and get them interested in conservation projects in their local area.
“Thanks to their leaders Denis and Kathy for their dedication and commitment to both the young people and the project.”
The Prince’s Trust Team Programme is a twelve week course for young people aged between 16 and 24.
Applications are now being accepted for the next Team Programme course which will begin on 18th Sept 2022 at both Limavady and Strand Road Campus.
The programme is free and allows participants to gain increased confidence, motivation and employability skills.
During the twelve weeks, participants will be involved in a challenging programme that is delivered in a fun and interactive way.
It will also be an opportunity for them to work towards a recognised qualification as well as the offer of Essential Skills numeracy and literacy.
Participants do not need to have any previous experience or educational qualifications to take part.
