Two further deaths, 2,524 new cases in North

THE Department of Health has reported tWo further Covid-19-related deaths over the past 24 hours in the North of Ireland.

Deaths are measured by recording those who died within 28 days of receiving a positive result in a test for Coronavirus.

The DoH records that none of these deaths happened outside the current reporting period.

The total number of deaths linked to Covid-19 in the North of Ireland recorded by the Department of Health since the start of the pandemic is at 3,287.

None of these latest deaths were recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.

Today’s data from the Department of Health shows there has been a further 2,524 positive cases of Coronavirus in the North of Ireland, a rise of 255 on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.

It includes cases confirmed from samples taken in previous days, not necessarily just in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

As of today, the number of positive cases confirmed in the past seven days was 14,460.

The statistics show that in the past 24 hours there has been a further 241 Covid-19 cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of 36 on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.

Over the past seven days, there were 1,292 cases recorded in the Derry and Strabane Council area.

The infection rates within Derry and Strabane is now the fourth hightest of all 11 councils in the North of Ireland with 855 cases per 100,000.

Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now up to 108 per cent.

The Department of Health now records that 212 people (mostly in hospitals) have died from Coronavirus in the Derry City and Strabane Council area.

There are currently 538 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals here.

There is seven patients with Covid-19 being treated in intensive care units with four people on ventilators.

There are 31 people being treated in Altnagelvin Hospital with Coronavirus and no persons with Covid-19 are in intensive care.

The figures show that 13.17 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are occupied by people with Coronavirus and it is running at 8.68 per cent over capacity for beds.

The Department of Health reports that 156 care homes in the North of Ireland are dealing with an outbreak of Coronavirus, with 1,352 closed cases of Covid-19 in care homes here.

In the Western Trust area, 30 of its 67 care homes are dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.

A total of 3,750,470 vaccines have been administered to date across the North of Ireland as of Thursday.
