One further death, 2,007 new cases in North

THE Department of Health has reported one further Covid-19-related death over the past 24 hours in the North of Ireland.

Deaths are measured by recording those who died within 28 days of receiving a positive result in a test for Coronavirus.

The total number of deaths linked to Covid-19 in the North of Ireland recorded by the Department of Health since the start of the pandemic is at 3,274.

None of these latest death were recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.

Today’s data from the Department of Health shows there has been a further 2,007 positive cases of Coronavirus in the North of Ireland, a rise of 384 on figures given yesterday for Saturday.

It includes cases confirmed from samples taken in previous days, not necessarily just in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

As of today, the number of positive cases confirmed in the past seven days was 13,754.

The statistics show that in the past 24 hours there has been a further 188 Covid-19 cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.

Over the past seven days, there were 1,169 cases recorded in the Derry and Strabane Council area.

The infection rates within Derry and Strabane is now the sixth hightest of all 11 councils in the North of Ireland with 774 cases per 100,000.

Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now down to 105 per cent.

The Department of Health now records that 211 people (mostly in hospitals) have died from Coronavirus in the Derry City and Strabane Council area.

There are currently 484 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals here.

There is five patient with Covid-19 being treated in intensive care units with twp persons on ventilators.

There are 16 people being treated in Altnagelvin Hospital with Coronavirus and no persons with Covid-19 are in intensive care.

The figures show that 12.20 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are occupied by people with Coronavirus and it is running at 2.12 per cent over capacity for beds.

The Department of Health reports that 153 care homes in the North of Ireland are dealing with an outbreak of Coronavirus, with 1,355 closed cases of Covid-19 in care homes here.

In the Western Trust area, 26 of its 67 care homes are dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.

A total of 3,746,755 vaccines have been administered to date across the North of Ireland as of Monday.
