Five further deaths, 2,391 new cases in North

THE Department of Health has reported five further Covid-19-related deaths over the past 24 hours in the North of Ireland.

Deaths are measured by recording those who died within 28 days of receiving a positive result in a test for Coronavirus.

The total number of deaths linked to Covid-19 in the North of Ireland recorded by the Department of Health since the start of the pandemic is at 3,263.

None of these latest death were recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.

Today’s data from the Department of Health shows there has been a further 2,391 positive cases of Coronavirus in the North of Ireland, a fall of 215 figures given yesterday for Monday.

It includes cases confirmed from samples taken in previous days, not necessarily just in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

As of today, the number of positive cases confirmed in the past seven days was 14,970.

The statistics show that in the past 24 hours there has been a further 194 Covid-19 cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of 45 on figures given yesterday for Monday.

Over the past seven days, there were 1,162 cases recorded in the Derry and Strabane Council area.

The infection rates within Derry and Strabane is now the fourth lowest of all 11 councils in the North of Ireland with 749 cases per 100,000.

Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now up t0 108 per cent.

The Department of Health now records that 211 people (mostly in hospitals) have died from Coronavirus in the Derry City and Strabane Council area.

There are currently 515 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals here.

There is four patient with Covid-19 being treated in intensive care units with no persons on a ventilator.

There are 20 people being treated in Altnagelvin Hospital with Coronavirus and no persons with Covid-19 are in intensive care.

The figures show that 9.32 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are occupied by people with Coronavirus and it is running at 10.17 per cent over capacity for beds.

The Department of Health reports that 152 care homes in the North of Ireland are dealing with an outbreak of Coronavirus, with 1,325 closed cases of Covid-19 in care homes here.

In the Western Trust area, 25 of its 67 care homes are dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.

A total of 3,741,872 vaccines have been administered to date across the North of Ireland as of Wednesday.
