Four further deaths, 2,407 new cases in North

THE Department of Health has reported four further Covid-19-related death over the past 24 hours in the North of Ireland.

One of these latest deaths was recorded outside the current reporting period.

Deaths are measured by recording those who died within 28 days of receiving a positive result in a test for Coronavirus.

The total number of deaths linked to Covid-19 in the North of Ireland recorded by the Department of Health since the start of the pandemic is at 3,217.

None of these latest deaths were recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.

Today’s data from the Department of Health shows there has been a further 2,407 positive cases of Coronavirus in the North of Ireland, a fall of 160 on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.

It includes cases confirmed from samples taken in previous days, not necessarily just in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

As of today, the number of positive cases confirmed in the past seven days was 14,193.

The statistics show that in the past 24 hours there has been a further 202 Covid-19 cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a fall of 10 on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.

Over the past seven days, there were 1,070 cases recorded in the Derry and Strabane Council area.

The infection rates within Derry and Strabane is now the fourth lowest of all 11 councils in the North of Ireland with 708 cases per 100,000.

Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now up to 107 per cent.

The Department of Health now records that 207 people (mostly in hospitals) have died from Coronavirus in the Derry City and Strabane Council area.

There are currently 477 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals here.

There are five patients with Covid-19 being treated in intensive care units, with three people on ventilators.

There are 22 people being treated in Altnagelvin Hospital with Coronavirus and no persons with Covid-19 are in intensive care.

The figures show that 11.93 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are occupied by people with Coronavirus and it is running at 2.27 per cent over capacity for beds.

The Department of Health reports that 154 care homes in the North of Ireland are dealing with an outbreak of Coronavirus, with 1,271 closed cases of Covid-19 in care homes here.

In the Western Trust area, 22 of its 67 care homes are dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.

A total of 3,724,892 vaccines for Covid-19 have been administered across the North of Ireland as of Wednesday.

A total of 1,419,613 people have had their first dose and 1,323,808 have had their second dose, while 20,345 third doses have been administered.

A total of 961,109 booster jabs have been administered as of Wednesday.
