Three further deaths, 4,159 new cases in North

THE Department of Health has reported three further Covid-19-related deaths (one outside the current recording period) in the past 24 hours in the North of Ireland.

Deaths are measured by recording those who died within 28 days of receiving a positive result in a test for Coronavirus.

The total number of deaths linked to Covid-19 in North of Ireland recorded by the Department of Health since the start of the pandemic is at 3,111.

None of these latest nine deaths were recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.

Today’s data from the Department of Health shows there has been a further 4,159 positive cases of Coronavirus in the North of Ireland, a rise of 1,090 on figures given yesterday for Saturday.

It includes cases confirmed from samples taken in previous days, not necessarily just in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

As of today, the number of positive cases confirmed in the past seven days was 29,071.

The statistics show that in the past 24 hours there has been a further 183 Covid-19 cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of 32 on figures given on Friday for Thursday.

Over the past seven days, there were 1,289 cases recorded in the Derry and Strabane Council area.

The infection rates within Derry and Strabane now has the lowest of all 11 councils in the North of Ireland with 853 cases per 100,000.

Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now at 105 per cent.

The Department of Health now records that 200 people (mostly in hospitals) have died from Coronavirus in the Derry City and Strabane Council area.

There are currently 338 patients with Covid-19 in hospital here.

There are 23 patients with Covid-19 being treated in intensive care units, with 16 people on ventilators.

There are 31 people being treated in Altnagelvin Hospital with Coronavirus with four people in intensive care.

The figures show that 8.47 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are occupied by people with Coronavirus and it is running at 8.19 per cent over capacity for beds.

The Department of Health reports that 186 care homes in the North of Ireland are dealing with an outbreak of Coronavirus, with 1,127 closed cases of Covid-19 in care homes here.

In the Western Trust area, 39 of its 67 care homes are dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.

A total of 3,668,413 vaccines for Covid-19 had been administered in the North of Ireland as of Monday.

A total of 1,415,088 people have had their first dose and 1,312,791 have had their second dose, while 19,533 third doses have been administered.

A total of 921,001 booster jabs had been administered as of Monday.
