Four more deaths, 6,877 new cases in North

THE Department of Health has reported four more Covid-19-related deaths in the past 24 hours in the North of Ireland.

Deaths are measured by recording those who died within 28 days of receiving a positive result in a test for Coronavirus.

The total number of deaths linked to Covid-19 in North of Ireland since the start of the pandemic is now 3,502.

None of the latest deaths was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane Council area with its death toll from the virus (mostly in hospitals) now at 190.

Today’s data from the Department of Health shows there has been a further 6,877 positive cases of Coronavirus in the North of Ireland, a fall of 256 on figures given yesterday.

It includes cases confirmed from samples taken in previous days, not necessarily just in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

As of today, the number of positive cases confirmed in the past seven days was 49,270.

The statistics show that in the past 24 hours there has been a further 724 Covid-19 cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a fall of 235 on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.

Over the past seven days, there were 6,198 cases recorded in the Derry and Strabane Council area.

The infection rates within Derry and Strabane is still the highest of all councils in the North of Ireland, and has fallen slightly to 4,096.9 cases per 100,000.

Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now up to 109 per cent.

There are currently 404 patients with Covid-19 in hospital here.

There are 30 patients with Covid-19 being treated in intensive care units, with 24 people on ventilators.

There are 52 (down three on yesterday’s figures) people being treated in Altnagelvin Hospital with Coronavirus with five people in intensive care.

The figures show that 14.33 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are occupied by people with Coronavirus and it is running at 12.36 per cent over capacity for beds.

The Department of Health reports that 179 care homes in the North of Ireland are dealing with an outbreak of Coronavirus, with 1,039 closed cases of Covid-19 in care homes here.

A total of 3,550,883 vaccines for Covid-19 had been administered in the North of Irelnd as of Thursday.

Of that total, 1,404,156 were first doses, 1,299,712 were second doses and the remaining were third doses.

There have been 827,626 booster vaccines delivered.
