A MAN has been taken to hospital after his car entered the River Roe near Dungiven on New Year’s Day.
The NI Fire and Rescue Service said it used ropes to help him up an embankment off Magheramore Road in Co Derry just after 9 am.
He had been able to get out of the car himself.
It is understood he was not seriously injured.
A further search of the river took place to determine if there was anyone else in the water.
A police spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a road traffic collision which occurred at the Magheramore Road area of Dungiven on Saturday 1st January.
“At around 9:05am, it was reported that a car had struck a bridge in the area and entered the river. One man was taken to hospital following the incident.”
NIFRS dispatched a number of units including specialist rescue teams from Crescent Link in Derry and Central Fire Station in Belfast.
