THE Department of Health has announced a further 1,462 new cases in the North of Ireland in the past 24 hours.
That’s a fall of 303 on figures given yesterday for Tuesday.
There have been six further Covid-19-related deaths (none outside the current reporting period), with the total to date since the start of the pandemic (mostly in hospitals) now at 2,782.
Sadly, one of these latest deaths was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
In the past week, the Department has recorded 9,030 new cases of Coronavirus.
There has been a further 94 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of 17 on numbers given yesterday for Tuesday.
Over the past seven days there have been a further 460 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.
This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 28,071 positive cases within the council boundary.
The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has fallen to 304.1 cases per 100,000 – still the lowest rate of all 11 councils in the North.
The Department has recorded a total of 181 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the lowest out of all councils here.
Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now at 105 per cent.
There are currently 387 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.
There are 37 patients being treated in intensive care with 30 patients on ventilators.
The Western Trust reports that 10.34 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are COVID-19 occupied with staff treating 33 patients with Coronavirus.
Four of these patients are currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19.
The hospital is currently running at 6.07 per cent over capacity with beds.
A total of 38 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 952 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.
Ten out of 68 residential care homes in the Western Trust area are still dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.
To date, a total of 2,773,870 Coronavirus vaccines have been administered in the North.
