A MURAL is to be unveiled next week to Derry youth worker Brian McMenamin.

Mr McMenamin died suddenly in August 2020.

He had been associated with Long Tower Youth and Community Centre for over 40 years.

Present and past members of Long Tower Youth Club are being invited to the unveiling of the mural by local artist Paddy Doherty next Wednesday, November 17 between 7 pm and 8.30 pm.

The unveiling will take place at Long Tower Youth Club, Brandywell Showgrounds in Anne Street.

Mr McMemamin was well respected within the community for his work with young people

Said one local man: “Brian was a very active community person in the Brandywell and Bogside area for a long number of years.

“He helped many a troubled teenager and probably saved a large number of lives by his interventions.”

At the time of his death last year, the then Mayor Brian Tierney said: “I am saddened to learn of the passing of well-known Youth Worker Brian McMenamin.

“I was fortunate to work closely with Brian on the Bogside and Brandywell Youth Forum.

“I experienced first hand his passion for his community and improving young people’s lives.

“I wish to extend my condolences to his family.’
