Said the Foyle MLA: “I am delighted to hear this historic announcement and witness the real leadership that SDLP Minister Nichola Mallon is showing at COP26.
“The decarbonisation of our vehicles is key to our transition to a green future and tackling the climate emergency.
“This announcement today builds on the extensive work already being driven forward in government by Nichola Mallon to use every lever at her disposal to reverse our devastating journey towards climate catastrophe.
“This has included her announcement of over £70m for 100 zero emission buses in Northern Ireland as well as a £30m investment to replace all buses in Derry with electric vehicles, meaning it will be one of the first cities in the UK or Ireland to have a fully-zero emission fleet in 2024.
“It is clear that Minister Mallon understands the clear urgency of the crisis facing our planet and our people.
“We can no longer let the dangerous drift that has characterised the attitude of previous generations continue.
“It is time for action,” added Ms McLaughlin.
