Six more deaths, 1,291 new cases in North

THE Department of Health has announced a further 1,291 new cases in the North of Ireland in the past 24 hours.

That’s a rise of 167 on figures given yesterday for Monday.

There have been six further Covid-19-related deaths over the same period (two outside the current reporting period), with the total to date since the start of the pandemic (mostly in hospitals) now at 2,675.

Sadly, three of these latest deaths were recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.

In the past week, the Department has recorded 8,389 new cases of Coronavirus.

There has been a further 74 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a rise of 19 on numbers given yesterday for Monday.

Over the past seven days there have been a further 467 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.

This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 27,080 positive cases within the council boundary.

The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has fall again to 308.7 cases per 100,000 – still the lowest rate of all 11 councils in the North.

The Department has recorded a total of 174 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.

Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now up to 106 per cent.

There are currently 345 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.

There are 33 patients being treated in intensive care with 26 patients on ventilators.

The Western Trust reports that 9.77 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are COVID-19 occupied with staff treating 43 patients with Coronavirus.

Six of these patients are currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19.

The hospital is currently running at 7.18 per cent over capacity with beds.

A total of 51 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 922 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.

A total of ten out of 69 residential care homes in the Western Trust area are still dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.

To date, a total of 2,634,021 Coronavirus vaccines have been administered in the North.
