Four further deaths, 1,124 new cases in North

THE Department of Health has reported a further 1,124 new cases in the North of Ireland in the past 24 hours.

That’s a rise of 105 on figures given yesterday for Sunday.

There have been four further Covid-19-related deaths over the same period (none outside the current reporting period), with the total to date since the start of the pandemic (mostly in hospitals) now at 2,669.

None of these latest deaths was recorded in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.

In the past week, the Department has recorded 8,569 new cases of Coronavirus.

There has been a further 55 positive cases in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area, a fall of 12 on numbers given yesterday for Sunday.

Over the past seven days there have been a further 479 COVID-19 cases in the Derry and Strabane area.

This means that since the pandemic started in March there have now been 27,006 positive cases within the council boundary.

The rate of infection within the Derry and Strabane Council area has fall again to 316.6 cases per 100,000 – still the lowest rate of all 11 councils in the North.

The Department has recorded a total of 171 Coronavirus deaths within the Derry and Strabane council area to date – the third lowest out of all councils here.

Bed occupancy across all hospitals is now at 105 per cent.

There are currently 358 patients in hospitals across the North with Coronavirus.

There are 34 patients being treated in intensive care with 26 patients on ventilators.

The Western Trust reports that 9.07 per cent of beds in Altnagelvin Hospital are COVID-19 occupied with staff treating 32 patients with Coronavirus.

Six of these patients are currently being treated in Altnagelvin’s ICU for COVID-19.

The hospital is currently running at 6.23 per cent over capacity with beds.

A total of 50 care homes are now dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak with a further 922 concluded Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes.

A total of ten out of 69 residential care homes in the Western Trust area are still dealing with a Coronavirus outbreak.

To date, a total of 2,625,815 Coronavirus vaccines have been administered in the North.
