OFFICERS from the Paramilitary Crime Task Force investigating suspected drugs criminality linked to the INLA have arrested an 37 year old man from the Derry area today.

He was detained on suspicion of a number of offences including: conspiracy to import firearm; possession firearm with intent to endanger life; being concerned in an offer to supply Class B controlled drug and conspiracy to transfer and possess criminal property.

Detective Inspector Kerry Brennan of the Paramilitary Crime Task Force said: “This arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into the activities of those who sell illegal drugs and use violence to exert coercive control of communities in Derry.

“Drug dealers remain a priority for the Paramilitary Crime Task Force due to the violent Human Rights abuses they carry out on members of their local communities.

“We will continue to work with our partners and communities in Derry/Londonderry to relentlessly tackle the scourge of criminals who are continually trying to flood their own towns with drugs, who seek to take control of peoples’ lives.

“Together we can tackle this.

“I know the people of Derry do not want this and I would encourage anyone with information that could assist in our efforts to contact us on the non-emergency number 101, or submit a report online using our non-emergency reporting form via: http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/

“You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at: http://crimestoppers-uk.org
